                        > Muggle Studies

                   ɤ   ›PERSONALITY:

Adrian's parents are both from wizarding stock and have impressed upon him the need for their sort to temper confidence with humility. Having grown up with a younger sister he's used to competing for attention, and as a result Adrian throws himself whole-heartedly into everything he does from Quidditch to study. He treats everything like a competition - he wants to be the first, the best, and to be recognized for his achievements. Adrian has his eye set on a Prefect badge, and even has ambitions to be Head Boy and Quidditch Captain someday, though his actions often conflict with these lofty ambitions.

Although proud of his accomplishments and sometimes prone to getting a big head, Adrian has big ambitions and the tenacity to achieve them. And that means seeking out instruction and criticism, and absorbing as much information from his teachers and peers as possible in the limited time he has at school. Adrian is well known for staying after class to ask questions and is one of the more active and vocal participants in his classes. He isn't afraid of making mistakes and often takes bold risks for the chance at great rewards.

Adrian is extremely fond of flying and quidditch in general, and actively follows his home team, the Holyhead Harpies as well as the Welsh National Team. He hopes to one day play Seeker professionally, but has been raised to aspire to excellence in all pursuits and has several backup plans. He's expressed an interest in memory charms and potion making, as well as recreational dueling. Perhaps he's got a future as an Obliviator or Auror, depending on what he gets on those OWLs and NEWTs.

While not exactly pompous, Adrian is very opinionated and can be extremely defensive and easy to offend. He is anxious to prove that he is brave enough to wear the gold and crimson in the face of the current adversity and climate permeating the school, never shying away from a challenge or backing down from confrontation. This pugnacious nature has nearly gotten him expelled for unauthorized dueling, and he spent his second year at Hogwarts on probation for (unsuccessfully) attempting to hex a Slytherin prefect after he had "unfairly" taken points from Gryffindor. He's also sensitive about his height, and the fact that he wasn't chosen to play on his House Quidditch Team in his second year - something he'd spent the whole of his first year gloating about how he was SURE he'd be picked. Setbacks like this raise a fire in Adrian, and nothing gets his ire up like failure. However, this ... enthusiasm let's call it, can often be interpreted as righteous indignation and though he uses that energy to improve himself and redouble his efforts, many people view him as arrogant or entitled and he has a difficult time making friends.

                   ɤ   ›HISTORY:

Adrian's parents are both from strong wizarding families. The Tallharts on his father's side are a long line of Ravenclaws, but Adrian takes more after the Powells on his mother's side who are mostly Gryffindors, with two second cousins graduated from Hufflepuff. His father Ulric is strict and sparing with praise, demanding much of his children not the least of which is top marks. Ulric Tallhart earns a living developing and implementing charms for competitive racing brooms, and has authored two books on charm work as well as Broom Care and Maintenance for the Pros,  and Quidditch from Pitch to Snitch - a biography of his wife Deryn's career as a professional seeker, and insight into what it's like to play for a professional team.

Deryn Tallhart, Adrian's mother is currently a  Mediwitch at St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries. She met her husband Ulric at Hogwarts in her third year and they were married straight away after she graduated in 1999. Adrian was born the following year in 2000, and his sister Chris two years later in 2002 putting her ambitions to join a professional team on hold until she could get back into playing shape in 2006 where she played the position of Seeker for the Holyhead Harpies until 2009. Adrian has had dreams of playing for the Welsh since he was old enough to ride his first training broom; his mother is his hero, mentor and idol, and he wants nothing more than to play for her team and make her proud.

Adrian was a difficult and unruly child in his younger years, but his parents are a well-oiled machine of checks and balances to one another's extreme parenting styles. Adrian himself, although loud-mouthed at times has learned that respect and dignity are two gifts which are free to give and always reap better rewards than spite and revenge. Both of his parents lost friends and relatives in the Battle of Hogwarts, and they are keen to make sure their children who did not experience the tragedy firsthand keep the lessons of those dark days fresh in their minds during these new uncertain and trying times.

Receiving the letter from Hogwarts was both a relief and a celebratory occasion for Adrian and his family - he'd get to do something his sister couldn't for once, and he was proud to be attending his parents' Alma Mater as well. During his first year at Hogwarts, Adrian petitioned to be allowed a broom so that he could join the Quidditch team which he was denied. His second year, he tried out for Seeker and Chaser, but found the competition to be quite fierce and he was judged not good enough to replace any of the existing players. He felt this was a great injustice, and has spent the entirety of the summer dragging his mother off to help him practice in the hopes that his hard work will earn him a proper spot on the team, or at least as an alternate.

While Adrian consistently receives good marks in Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts and Potions owing to a sense of duty and diligence, his grades in Astronomy and History of Magic are both poor bordering on terrible. Adrian has spent many a sleepless night working on Transfiguration, but for some reason he can never seem to get things to change all the way through and he finds the subject endlessly frustrating. Adrian finds Herbology quite tiresome, and feels that Potion-making is the more useful skill - let somebody else procure the ingredients, he wants to be the one who puts them together and makes them actually DO something. Although he has an interest in Care of Magical Creatures, he lacks the natural instinct necessary for dealing with many of them and can't seem to improve past average despite concerted effort.

                   ɤ   ›RELATIONSHIPS: TBA

                   ɤ   ›OTHER INFORMATION:

Adrian's goggles have a zoom function, and permanent water-repelling and defogging charms cast on them - very handy, and he's rarely seen without them. He also often tests prototype brooms for his father, and is currently using the Sonic Arrow Mk.3 which, although quite fast still has some kinks to be worked out before it sees mainstream production.

Adrian is extremely short of stature, which has earned him some very unpleasant nicknames and he's quick to anger when confronted about it. The only person he seems to put up with this from is his sister Chris - he'll make a show of annoyance, but he's secretly quite happy that she's finally at Hogwarts with him and likes to tease her about her poor broomsmanship.
